The theme in Romeo and Juliet is very emotional and bounces around all over the place, it goes from being serious and violent to being deeply romantic and depressing. At the begging of the story it starts off violent in a humorous way when their is a fight between the Montague and Capulet family's. the story then takes a turn towards the more sensitive, soft side of Romeo when he claims he is in love with Rosaline, and then Juliet. for the most part of the story the theme is showing very romantic, devoted love. The story is an example that love can be strong enough for anyone no matter your age, the story also shows that nothing is stronger then love. This is shown in the story when Romeo and Juliet meet each other and fall in love instantly, they don't know each other for even one night before they marry and soon after take their own lives for each other. no matter what gets in the way of love, when two people love each other they always will and nothing can change that. that's what Romeo and Juliet represented and that's what they died for.
